LOTUS 7, 5:8 SCALE REPLICA "MICROBUSA"

MICROBUSA

This is the build diary of the Microbusa

A 5/8th scale replica of the

Westfield Megabusa

For my grandson Ethan

The original intention was to build a replica of a Land rover defender, but after talking to a work mate about the idea he said he knew someone who had started a replica of a Westfield, Caterham, Locost, tiger (to name but a few) style lotus 7 but never finished it.

After a couple of days he came back to me and said that if I wanted the chassis I could have it. This was a chance to kill two birds with one stone as I had always wanted to build a lotus 7 style car, but for me to drive.

The chassis arrived looking a bit rusty well it had apparently been sat in his back garden for 20 odd years but as it was only surface rust I would use it. But the freebies didn’t stop there he also gave me an old lawn mower engine a Suffolk super colt which I later found out was either 75cc or 95cc much better than the 25cc mini moto engine I had intended to use, and the last freebee was a steering column and steering wheel from an escort this is a bit on the heavy side so I don’t know yet if I shall use it.
